Founded by a team with more than a century of potato growing heritage, Elsham Wold Distillery is located on the border of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire; just a few miles from where the base ingredient for the spirit – the King Edward potato – was first cultivated in 1902.
The potatoes used to make our Classic English Potato Vodka are all grown in local fields, and stored on site until their journey to the distillery begins.
From Soil to Spirit
Our potato growing is LEAF Accredited and Red Tractor Assured. LEAF Marque Standard is an environmental assurance system recognising more sustainably farmed products. We are always looking for new regenerative
farming practices to integrate into our farms, such as investing into our irrigation and planting pollinator wildflower mixes into uncropped areas.
Our ‘soil to spirit’ process also allows us to minimise waste… we love using wonky potatoes to make our vodka!
Supporting local
We work with as many local suppliers as we can throughout our supply chain. Our bespoke glass vodka bottle is produced in Leeds (only 60 miles away from our distillery), and we work with local partners for both our Coffee Liqueur (Lincoln & York roastery) and our English Rhubarb Vodka (E. Oldroyds & Sons).
Recycle, recycle, recycle!
We prioritise sending the waste from our distilling operations to a local Anaerobic Digestion facility to produce biogas. And, we’re even able to collect our own condenser water for use in cleaning processes, which substantially reduces the water consumption of our distillery.
Protecting the future
Our distillery site utilises solar panels to offset the carbon
footprint of our production. When the distillery isn’t using
electricity, the photovoltaic power is diverted towards the stores used to store our King Edward potatoes. If there is ever a surplus of electricity available from our panels, this is put directly into the grid as a source of green energy.
